About Us...

Margaret Lee and Bob

I am Margaret Lee and this is my wonderful husband Bob.  We live in the beautiful state of Maryland. I have also lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Michigan and Missouri.

Varied interests keep me busy and I am fortunate to be able to be a full time artist.  Primarily I paint custom pet portraits because I love the feel of a brush with paint on canvas and seeing what develops. I also enjoy needlework, knitting and renovating our 1923 house in Parkville, MD.  I am a 'hands-on' person, do as much of the work as I can myself from demolition to re-creation.  I even use power tools!

Custom Pet Portraits

What goes around comes around...again and again.   I have had a life long love of painting, oil, acrylic, pastels and a bit of water color.  However, painting took a back seat to taking care of my family, working and going to school.

I should have made the time to paint more when my children were little...but it seemed I never had more than an hour of uninterrupted time to 'make a mess' and leave it till I could find more time to come back it...

After moving to Missouri in 2003, I started taking oil painting classes at the local Hobby Lobby to meet new people in the area.  Soon afterward I took classes from Dorothy Dent at her studio in Springfield, and in St. Louis, MO with Billy O. and Bob Bertram, a well known artist who specializes in hunting dogs.  I am a Grumbacher fine art instructorcertifed and Folk Art One Stroke Certified Instructor.

I enjoy oil painting because the paint is creamy and dries 'slow' making it delightful to blend directly on the canvas.  It is VERY satisfying turning a intimidating blank canvas into a special work of art for family, friends and animal lovers!

Precious & Jack

My Little buddies...

I also enjoy bicycling and hiking during warm months, when I'm not painting or working on house renovations.

In the cooler months, I like to snuggle up with a nice needlework project and my two little dogs, Precious and Jack.

Needlework

I began stitching needlework designs regularly after having children in an attempt to maintain a bit of sanity while they were young, something I could easily pick up and put down at a moments notice.  I made a Christmas stockings for each of my 3 children and their father following the charts chosen.  However for my stocking, I deleted part of the design and added a few of my favorite items, it took longer but I enjoyed the creative process.

As I developed more skill and made my personal designs available for the public and began teaching on a local and national level in 1999.  Along the way, I realized it would be nice to have tools would make stitching faster and easier.  I could not find anything suitable, so I designed a few including:

  • Clear View Thread/Stitch Counters I & II
  • Needle Park Avenue

These tools make intricate needlework designs easier for stitchers to create.

Several of my designs have been published in Just Cross Stitch Magazine Ornament Issues.
